December 16, 1937 – August 9, 2017
Denis (Denny) passed away peacefully last Wednesday August 9 at Squamish General Hospital in Squamish BC surrounded by his family.
He was born in North Vancouver BC but lived his whole life in Squamish.
Lovingly remembered by his wife Shirley, children Kathy (Sean), Warren, Doug & stepson Paul (Jenine), 7 grandchildren Shawna, Kaitlyn, Chase, Paige, Grace, Maddison & Jacob, 4 brothers Jim (Marg) , Gerry, Alex (Inga) & Ray (Fely) and many nephews and nieces.
He was pre-deceased by his parents Wally & Norah McDougall long time Squamish pioneers. His grandparents were William & Elizabeth Dent from whom Dentville was named.
Denny, despite being a paraplegic from the age of 17, established himself as a successful local business operator (McDougall’s Music and Furnishings) and real estate developer (Dentville Holdings).
Although not an Architect, he totally designed the muti-level white house standing on the bluffs near the hospital overlooking Squamish and Howe Sound.
In his “golden” years Denny was fortunate to be able to cruise in luxury to all corners of the globe. He provided valuable input to the Cruise Industry as to how to better deal with individuals with physical handicaps.
A Celebration of Denny’s life will be held at the Squamish Funeral Chapel at 40440 Tantalus Road, Squamish BC on Saturday, August 26 at 12PM noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Paraplegic Association.
