When I met Olaf at hilltop house on my first shift I will always remember how he made me feel so welcome. I had been assigned to his floor and he immediately recognized that I was of Spanish heritage and he began to speak in Spanish too me easing my first day jitters. Through out the years of working with Olaf he expressed his kindness and gratitude any chance he got. He gave hilltop so much with his sense of humour, wit stories and overall wisdom. Olaf will always be remembered and continue to live in our hearts here at hilltop house he was a true Gem. I will miss him.

Olaf was such a bright light in this world. He did so much for his community, being part of the Hilltop Support Society and getting the residents their first bus and driving it, then after retiring from the society always coming to play piano for them. He truly wanted to enrich the lives of others. When he came to live at Hilltop, he said he always felt at home there because of all his previous involvement.
He was never in his room (only to sleep), because he was always out visiting and telling stories to people that needed companionship. He never ever complained and was so very patient and thankful always. He will be forever missed at Hilltop but so very fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Thank you to the family for such a wonderful tribute to the staff and a very special thank you to each of you for your contributions to Hilltop, visiting with residents, sharing beautiful music, helping with bingo and just being an all around lovely family

Olaf was an important part of the heart of Hilltop. A day didn't go by where he didn't compliment, encourage and praise the staff for their help and care. He was steadfast in watching over his hilltop friends and always making sure everyone was alright. The true definition of a "gentle"man. He will be missed.

Zia & I knew Olaf when Zia served on the Hilltop Volunteer Board.Olif's commitment to entertain the Hilltop residents was one the best parts of his humanity. His sense of humor was one of the attributes of his personality and we are privileged to have known him as friend.
His famous greetings " Should I know You?" would always remain a part of his memories.
May God bless his soul .

I feel so fortunate to have been able to know and appreciate Olaf - for his love, his knowledge, his extreme kindness, his music, his encouragement and whole list of other things that would just fill these pages. I especially want to express my deepest, heartfelt condolences to Olaf's family who are just the best people. I believe that Olaf has some responsibility in that.
Olaf always encouraged me in my music (of course after roping me into helping them at Hilltop with the music there) and he was always very positive. Many times he told me what I'd played was wonderful even when I thought it was far from it. That was Olaf - always encouraging. I had a lot of fun with him and Jean at Hilltop, it was happy times and you could tell the people loved it too.
We all will miss this dear man, he's a precious trust and has left a rather large hole in many hearts, mine included.
Rest well Olaf, you and Jean are back together forever as it should be.
